A first of its kind, Indigenous-led platform has recently been launched, set to support First Nations communities grow their aspirations for Country.
Known as the Knowledge Hub – the website is a free, online platform designed for Indigenous peoples to use as a starting point for new business projects.
Managed by the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), the Knowledge Hub supports Indigenous groups’ access to information about economic opportunities that are aligned with their Country, boosting their quests for self-determination.
An ideal solution to a common problem.
Quite often, information about sector opportunities, government programs and regulations are spread across multiple datasets and custodians, with significant variation across Australia.
This creates several barriers to self-determination and partnership development for First Nations groups, leaving them with considerable challenges in accessing relevant information.
Olkola Aboriginal Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Debbie Symonds, said she was impressed with the Knowledge Hub’s ability to represent the ILSC’s mission and community impact.
“The platform feels like more than just a website – it’s a vibrant digital extension of the ILSC’s commitment to culture, inclusion, and community.
“Overall, it not only provides information but also invites connection, participation, and a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity within the communities,” said Ms Symonds.
All Knowledge Hub content has been written by ILSC staff, in partnership with Indigenous sector leaders, government departments and data custodians to develop new and link existing online resources relevant to key sector opportunities.
ILSC Group Chief Executive Officer, Joe Morrison, said the Knowledge Hub is just one way the ILSC helps support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups achieve their goals.
“The Knowledge Hub is a practical starting point for new Indigenous-led projects, particularly in First Nations priority sectors of Renewables, Carbon, Inland Water, Environmental Markets and Fisheries & Aquaculture,” said Mr Morrison.
“First Nations peoples are the masters of their own future. They understand what is needed to succeed in terms of their aspirations for their Country and their community.
“I look forward to seeing how First Nations groups use the Knowledge Hub to their advantage, to help drive new opportunities and ultimately lead to increased economic empowerment,” said Mr Morrison.
Ongoing updates will continue for the Knowledge Hub. The site can be accessed here.
