Today the weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation (wAC) is recognising a significant milestone – finalising the divestment of Murrayfield Station, located on the north-eastern corner of Bruny Island, Tasmania. The Jumbun community is in high spirits this week, celebrating 45 years of Jumbun Limited during a commemorative Anniversary Ceremony, held on Girramay Country today. Coinciding with NAIDOC Week, Jumbun Limited have organised days’ worth of celebrations including an opening ceremony, colour fun run community event, Elders dinner and Rainforest Cricket Cup games. The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) has launched a national quick response grants program, to assist Indigenous organisations recover from natural disasters. With the commencement of the 2024 financial year, the ILSC’s flood grants have been restructured to cover all natural disasters, which now importantly include bushfire recovery. The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) is saddened to learn of the passing of former ILSC Director, Bruce Frank Martin. A Wik (Apalech) man from the community of Aurukun on western Cape York (Queensland) he was a remarkable young leader and outstanding representative of his people. He served as a Director of the ILSC between 2015 and 2021. His legacy will continue through the work he contributed to the development of Aurukun, Cape York and beyond. Warnkurr Sports and Social Club is a local gem. Established in 1987 – the club provides a space for the community and tourists to gather, have a yarn and share a meal. Located in Kalkarindji, on Gurindji Country, approximately 400km South of Katherine, Northern Territory, the popular hang-out serves up to 200 guests each year and is run by 30 employees. Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (ETNTAC) will be able to create an accessible hub for the local community, after being granted a new home by the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC).
