How we engage

How we engage

The ILSC's relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations are at the heart of everything we do. How we engage – the principles we bring to those relationships and the standards we hold ourselves to – matters as much as what we deliver.

Two documents set out our approach.

Our Engagement Framework establishes the principles and values that guide how we work with First Nations peoples. It commits us to cultural safety, self-determination, economic empowerment, data empowerment and ethical engagement. It recognises and supports the right of First Nations peoples to free prior and informed consent. The Framework sets out what those commitments mean in practice and highlights the tools and resources we are developing to embed them across our work.

Our Service Charter sets out the standards all our partners and stakeholders can expect from us. This includes the First Nations peoples we exist to serve, as well as the delivery partners, enabling partners and government bodies we work alongside. It covers how we communicate, how we make decisions, what we ask of you, and how to provide feedback or make a complaint.

Together, these documents reflect our commitment to being a transparent, accountable and culturally capable organisation.

Acknowledgement of Country

In all of the ILSC’s activities we pay our respect to the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands, waters and skies on which we live and work. We honour the resilience and continuing connection to Country, culture, and community of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia. We recognise the decisions we make today will impact the lives of generations to come.
