The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Grant Cameron as its Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Cameron, a Kamilaroi man, is a familiar face at the NCIE, previously devoting seven years of his professional career working at the iconic centre.

More recently, Mr Cameron delivered leadership programs in his capacity as Manager at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation. In this role, he worked closely with remote and regional First Nations communities.

Chair of the NCIE Board, Nigel Browne, expressed his delight in appointing Mr Cameron to guide the NCIE through its next exciting chapter.

“Mr Cameron is undoubtedly a natural fit for the NCIE with a lot to offer the organisation,” stated Mr Browne.

“He already has a great appreciation of the NCIE’s role within the community thanks to his experiences with the organisation over a period lasting almost a decade.

“He has extensive experience as a leader and is well-respected amongst his peers. We simply cannot wait to see him excel in this integral role.”

Mr Cameron echoed Mr Browne’s enthusiasm stating that his appointment to the CEO position feels like a homecoming.

“It feels like I’ve come full circle and am now returning home – I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to come back,” said Mr Cameron.

“NCIE holds a special place in my heart. The work of the centre profoundly resonates with me – particularly seeing the role the NCIE plays to break down barriers between First Nations people and the wider community.

“My vision is for NCIE to be a hub where people can come to play, learn, and grow.”

Group Chief Executive Officer of the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), Joe Morrison, congratulated Mr Cameron on his appointment as the NCIE’s CEO.

“On behalf of the ILSC Executive Team, we look forward to developing a close working relationship with Grant as he transitions into the role,” said Mr Morrison.

“The ILSC is committed to supporting the NCIE as it serves the community, providing opportunities for First Nations people.”

Mr Cameron will commence his new role on Monday 28 August 2023.
