New era dawns for ILSC

1 Feb 2019

The legislation to improve the sustainability of the Land Account and to extend the ILSC’s operations to include water were passed by Parliament on 28 November 2018. The support in Parliament was thanks to the broad support of Indigenous organisations across Australia.

“In the Indigenous worldview, land and water are continuous, so this change to our remit will allow us to better assist Indigenous people to reconnect with and care for water country,” said ILSC Chairperson, Mr Eddie Fry.

“Our expanded operations will enable us to invest in water-based projects to generate social, cultural, environmental and economic opportunities that land and water ownership can bring to Indigenous Australians”.

Over the coming months you will notice these changes taking place as we embrace our new name and embark on this exciting journey. So watch this space and stay tuned.
