The Acting Chairperson of the Indigenous Land Corporation (ILC), Mr Sam Jeffries, today announced that the ILC has established a Tourism Advisory Committee to provide advice to the ILC Board on Indigenous tourism projects, business opportunities and general tourism activities on ILC-acquired land across Australia. The Committee comprises:

  • Mr David Baffsky AO (Chair)-Chairman of Accor Asia Pacific and current ILC Board Member
  • Mr Aden Ridgeway-Chairman of Indigenous Tourism Australia
  • Ms Judy Freeman-Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park
  • Mr Chris Fry-National Australia Bank, financial expertise in tourism and agribusiness
  • Mr Glen Miller-Tourism Queensland

Mr Jeffries stated, “I am pleased to have such a high calibre group of people on the ILC’s Tourism Advisory Committee. I am sure that their expertise and knowledge of tourism across Australia, and Indigenous tourism in particular, will serve the ILC well in exploring business opportunities for tourism on ILC-acquired land and in respect of land management proposals on other Indigenous-held land submitted to the ILC. The ILC’s aim is to significantly strengthen its role in Indigenous tourism businesses and opportunities across Australia to create employment and training opportunities.

“The ILC looks forward to working with Australian and State government agencies in developing successful tourism businesses for Indigenous people. In particular, the ILC will be working collaboratively with Indigenous Business Australia to ensure the best possible outcome in jobs and training for Indigenous people who wish to participate in tourism businesses,” Mr Jeffries said.
